Jimena Rábago serves as Director of Organic Agriculture and Soil Microbiology for TriPoint Environmental and is a key member of the company’s Global Science, Research, Development & Innovation team. Her work spans soil microbiology, regenerative and organic agriculture, microtechnology, biological solution design, scientific innovation and field operations, helping translate TPE’s scientific platform into practical restoration solutions for deployment across the company’s international projects.

Rábago is an agronomist and microbiologist with an extensive academic and professional background focused on soil biology, sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and the biological processes underlying healthy and productive ecosystems. She holds a Master’s degree in Microbiology and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences from EARTH University in Costa Rica, an institution internationally recognized for sustainable agriculture, natural-resource management and environmental stewardship. Her advanced academic and professional work also encompasses agroforestry and sustainable development, providing a multidisciplinary foundation that connects microbiology with agricultural and ecosystem-scale applications.

An important component of Rábago’s scientific development was her training under Dr. Elaine Ingham, founder of the Soil Food Web approach and former Head of Science for TriPoint Environmental. This training provided her with an advanced practical understanding of Soil Food Web principles, microbial community structure and the role of soil biology in restoring nutrient cycling, plant health and ecosystem function. Together with other members of TPE’s scientific leadership trained under Dr. Ingham, Rábago helps carry forward an important part of the scientific foundation upon which TPE’s biological soil-restoration platform was established.

Her expertise is reinforced by significant practical agricultural management experience in Central America, where she has overseen organic farming operations. This combination of scientific training and direct operational responsibility gives Rábago an important perspective on the realities of implementing biological and regenerative practices in commercial agricultural environments. Her experience encompasses not simply the science of soil and plant systems, but the practical requirements of managing agricultural production, implementing organic practices, evaluating field performance and adapting biological approaches to real operating conditions.

Her scientific expertise focuses particularly on the establishment, function and interaction of microbial communities within soils and their relationships with plants. This work is directly aligned with TPE’s objective of restoring biological soil function as a foundation from which broader ecological recovery can occur.

At TPE, Rábago plays an important role in the company’s work with microbiology and microtechnology, including the evaluation, design and refinement of biological solutions intended to restore degraded soils and improve ecosystem function. She contributes to solution development and scientific innovation by examining how microorganisms, organic matter, plant roots, nutrients and soil structure interact—and how those biological relationships can be deliberately restored and supported to move degraded systems toward greater health, productivity and resilience.

Her responsibilities extend from research and solution development into testing, validation and field operations. Rábago works with TPE’s Global Science and Applied Science teams to translate microbiological principles into practical treatment programmes, helping adapt biological solutions to different soils, crops, climates, land-use systems and ecological conditions across TPE’s global project portfolio.

Within TPE’s regenerative-agriculture programmes, Rábago helps develop approaches intended to improve agricultural productivity by restoring natural biological function and strengthening the soil-plant-microbe relationship. Her experience overseeing organic farming operations provides a particularly valuable connection between scientific theory and the operational realities of agricultural production. The objective is to rebuild the biological mechanisms through which healthy soils cycle nutrients, support plant growth, retain and infiltrate water, develop structure, suppress disease and accumulate organic matter.

Her expertise is particularly important to TPE’s emphasis on below-ground restoration and soil organic carbon (SOC). TPE recognizes that a substantial component of ecosystem function and durable carbon storage occurs below ground. Rábago’s expertise in microbiology and plant-soil interactions contributes directly to the company’s understanding of how restored biological activity can support soil formation, carbon cycling and the accumulation and stabilization of organic carbon.

Rábago works closely with Dr. Carla Portugal, Rod Hiemstra and TPE’s broader Global Science team, forming an important part of the continuum between foundational Soil Food Web science, scientific research, microbiology, microtechnology, solution innovation, production and field implementation. Her expertise complements TPE’s forestry and regenerative-agriculture capabilities and helps ensure that biological soil restoration is integrated into overall project design rather than treated as an isolated intervention.

She also contributes to the continuing research, testing and improvement of TPE’s biological solutions and delivery protocols. Field observations, laboratory analysis and scientific data provide feedback into the R&D process, allowing formulations, microbial strategies, application methods and operating protocols to continually evolve as TPE gains experience across different ecosystems and geographies.

Through her combination of advanced microbiology, agronomy, Soil Food Web training, organic farm management, agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, microtechnology, solution design and field experience, Rábago provides an important scientific and operational capability within TPE. Her role helps ensure that the company’s restoration programmes are grounded in biological science while remaining practical in the field and capable of being translated into innovative, measurable and scalable solutions for improving soil function, agricultural productivity, carbon sequestration and wider ecosystem health.
